 Kubota M5040

I am city boy and avid deer hunter. I purchased 400 acres last year and worked 30 acres of food plots with a beat up borrowed tractor and it almost killed me (Louisiana heat, humidity and dust). I vowed to get a tractor with cab,a/c etc for comfort. I will be bushhogging, disking, using a box blade. I chose the kubota M5040 because it looked like alot more tractor than the compacts. I will be closing the deal tomorrow. My only concern is resale. If I step up to the 7040, it will accomodate hay equipment and would broaden my scope of potential buyers. Is it worth the extra $3,500. now?

Douglasb,

I have no idea how rapidly the M5040 models disappear from the tractor lots in Louisiana. In fact, there might be a big difference in model sales from one area of Louisiana to the next.

Please check with your local Kubota dealer and ask him which Kubota models are among the top sellers in your area. There may be a very notable difference in sales between new and used tractors, as well.

This is very important information, which you will need to have before making a decision on which tractor to buy.

If your local dealer won't or can't provide this info, please contact the regional Kubota factory representative.

A high resale value is based on supply and demand, as well as with the manufacturer's reputation for quality. If used Kubota tractors in these horsepower ranges sell well in your area, you might be fine with either model.

Generally speaking......the larger the tractor, the fewer the number of potential buyers. Smaller tractors are desired by a much larger percentage of the population. However, if your particular area is mainly composed of larger farms, you might be better off with a tractor that is desired by those folks. This is why it is so important for you to first determine which models sell best in your area.

I wish you the best. Have fun and be careful!

Joel

A quick look at ebay may also help you. If I thought I would be selling so quick resale value is my first concern, why buy new? You might might be able to hire the work for the loss you expect or find used to begin with.

There are lot of Kubotas in my area, the larger they get, the less there are by far.

The 7040 would allow you to also do haying if you would like. It would allow a larger mower for the areas you might like to have mowed. To me for the 20 horsepower the 3500 is a cheap investment and security that you would have enough horsepower you could do most anything you'd like!
