 Kubota LA-402 vs Woods loader

I see a number of Kubota dealers using the Woods loaders on brand new Kubota tractors. Is the Woods loader a better unit than the Kubota loader? Does it depend on which Kubota loader we're talking about. I'm interested in the merits of the Kubota LA-402 FEL with the 60" bucket.

In the past they have had there flaws and I haven't looked to close at the latest. One of the things lacking in some of the after market loader was the end grease zerks on the loader pins so they don't get knocked off. The last that I'd seen had them, and where it was weak in the boom it was better built. Often the changes you might find in the sub-frames is so the main frame will fit more tractors and not always the best for all! I would find it hard to believe that they could build a better loader then Kubota could for their tractors.

I don't know about the Woods loader, but Saturady, I found a unique, undocumented feature of the Kubota loader on my B7800. The loader has a quick release feature. To simplify removal, they include feet to stabilize the bucket when removed. These feet are held in place with a quick pull cotter pin.

If the pin comes out unexpectedly, the foot falls on the front tire. If not noticed very quickly, there is potential for the pad of the foot to puncture the tire.

This is not a hypothetical case, I just had to have one of my front tires patched and a tube added. The hole that results is too large to plug.

I believe the solution will be to replace the quick release pins with standard pins that require tools for removal, or circular marine cotter pins. In the mean time, I will be putting some nylon wire ties around the legs themselves, as a backup system. This may add a little time to the loader removal process, but not as much as having a tire repaired.

 Kubota LA-402 vs Woods loader

I know the post on the LA-402 loader is old, I'm new as of today. The fix I did on mine, (after I read your post)was to put a small spring on the pin so it well keep the arm pushed in. I also welded a bead big enough on the bottom side of the leg arm and now if the hair pin comes out the arm can only drop about 1 in.
Hope this helps i know your post sure saved me some $$$. Lee
