 L3400 vs L3430

I have been looking at the L hydro series tractors. The Grand model (3430) is about $2000 more than the 3400.I have the specs on both and still can't decide if the grand is worth the extra money.Would like to hear any comments.

 L3400 vs L3430

It seems most of the 700 lbs difference in weight is mass of the metal in the tractor. It costs you at least 1 dollar a pound for cast iron weights and scrap iron runs about the same. So is $2.80 reasonable for more mass and capacity in the tractor? It depends on what your applications are. For example if you want to move round bales with the 3pt you are at its limit with the 3400 but it is OK with the 3430. Depending on the size of loader and brand there is something like 500lb difference in lift capacity. You need to define your applications and determine what is acceptable. Pulling a implement you will see little difference, but that is only a little you do with a CUT.
I would think the $2000 difference will be seen in resale value through out the life of the tractor. You need to decide if you require the extra capacity. IMO

 L3400 vs L3430

The L-3400 is a very good work horse but the Grand L's do offer a work area that is a little bit cleaner in design and easier to enclose properly for a cab with heat for winter snow removal and as long as we are there. The 3400 has no provisions for a front snow blower or a mid mower.

 L3400 vs L3430

All,

Don't mean to run off with this thread but I've got a couple questions/observations that may be worth chunking in here.

Is it possible to widen the rear tires on the L3400 Ö I ask because Iíve driven the L3130, B3030,and New Holland TC33 ... of those the L3130 felt the most stable to me.
I think thatís because itís so much wider than the others.
I think I would be interested in looking at the L3400 if I could get it to sit as wide as the L3130.

Lastly ... does the L3130 seem to be underpowered for it's size?
The JD 990 is just a tad lighter than the L3130 however it seems to have great deal more HP ... Just one of those things that made me go HMM

Thanks in advance for your help and good luck on your quest for a tractor Ride

GB

Rick

The L-3400 does have adjustable rims like the 3130. There would also be a difference in the width depending on tires. If all tractors are new then they would all be the same as far as the performance they would give, but given five hundred hours the Kubota should be broken in enough that the power should be there.

"does the L3130 seem to be underpowered for it's size?"

The only time I've wanted more power is if I'm doing really heavy duty loader work such as digging in sand. So 98% of the time I've been very happy with the HP.
