Hi I was looking at a 7200 on the back lot of the local dealer. I ask about it and they told me it was a trade in. They said it would not start. It would smoke some when cranked. They put new injecters and a new fuel pump on it but still will not start. They say they think the timing is 180 degrees off.
It has a bobcat 1840 FEL on it.
I am can fix things but have never worked ona tractor like this.
Would it be hard to retime and whet els could be wrong.
The dealer will sell it to me for $2000 is it worth it?

There are two versions of those. One goes back to the 80's and the other was in the ninties. I'd be looking at the glow plugs.

Ron -
One thing to check, so long as you are certain of the items that the dealer has put into it, is the glow ring itself. The glow ring is located at the far right of the dashboard.

It may be that the dealer was not familiar with the starting sequence of the older units. With these units, CONTRARY to the newer generations, the B_200 series utilized a left turn of the key for preheat, unlike the newer units that have a right turn of the key for preheat. If the left hand preheat was not used, and the key turned for starting, she will do nothing more than crank and smoke. Again, it is a spring loaded turn of the key to the LEFT for preheat.

If the preheat is functioning, the glow ring will turn a bright orange after a minute or so, perhaps longer with a weak battery. The preheat coil on the dash, is an indicator that the glow plugs are getting heated. A non glowing dash coil, means a glow plug circuit that is not getting heated.

The B_200 units were manufactured from roughly 1983 to 1995,(depending on exact model/unit number), not to be confused with the B7100 which had been resurrected in the nineties from it first run in the late '70s early '80s.

Thank you for the responce. I made a mistake it has a bush hog loader.
Now for a good story.
I talked to the salesman and he told me that it was out of time and wouldn't run. So I went around to the back lot where it was. That is the side the shop guys are. I talked to them again and one said "lets go talk to **** he worked on it." So we did and he told me the little tractor was his winter project. He said he worked on it a hour here and there. He told me the pump was out of time when it came in as a trade. He told me he put a new injector pump on it, a new fuel pump, new injecters and new glow plugs in it. He flushed the rediator and changed all the fluids. He also put a new front seal in the engine. He told me the little tractor was cold blooded and hard to start but ran fine.
I went back to the salesman and again ask him the price. He said $2000 but the injector pump was 180 off. I told him they said it ran ok in the back. He again told me it had problems. I gave him a check for $2000+tax. Today I put a new battery in it at their lot. I heated it for about a minute pulled the compression release and let it wind up, pushed the release in and it sputtered and fired right up. I went to a dirt pile they have at the dealer and played with the tractor and loader for a couple of hours. Tomorrow I go pick it up. I think it was a very lucky day!
