 2710 HST failure

18 months ago I bought a used 2710 with just 100 hours on it. I paid strong money for it, but I expected it to last the rest of my life. After about 50 hours, the HST started to squeal like a slipping fan belt. I changed the oil and filters, but no change. With the next 40 hours the squeal got louder, so 6 months ago I took it to the local dealer. He tore it apart and found the bearing was wearing against the casing. Had to install a new HST. Got it back home and two hours later the squeal was comming back.
The dealer is now waiting for the Factory Rep. to come check out the "new" HST they installed. Has anyone had a similar experience with this tractor? Any good advice out there on what to do next?

I owned a 2710 HST for three years, putting over 400 hours on, with zero problems. Hopefully, the Rep will make it right with you. Be sure to let us know. Good luck.

Don't own a Kubota but several Iseki compacts. Loader and/or backhoe installed on your machine? If the new HST unit is failing in the same manner as the previous, I'd guess your clutch housing/tunnel is warped/twisted or perhaps cracked. Since you bought it used, carefully inspect the tunnel for any cracks or signs of it having been welded or repaired. I would hope the service technician at the dealer would have noticed this while installing the new unit.

Just my $0.02 and first thing that came to mind when reading your post.

I would agree with Jim, likely one of the casings is not correct. It could be the engine, transmission or rear end casing. Some how the casing is placing greater loads on the HST bearings than they are designed for. It would be difficult to measure the casings accurately when installed. You really need accurate measurements on a CMM or at least a surface table. You also would require the blue prints.
We had a TP member state he had a rear end rebuild a number of times on a Dodge pickup, likely a similar problem. They kept rebuilding it and it started to whine quickly after the rebuild.
You need to state to the Kubota rep. what you feel is wrong and insist that they fix it. If the housings were not cracked then one of the casing was not cast or machined correctly from the factory. Remember the thing they most fear is bad publicity. Tell them you are communicating with the TP etc. and if resolved correctly it is good publicity. Let us know how it turns out.
