I would remove the bucket or the whole FEL from the tractor, just to be on the safe side.

There is more stuff than just the battery to protect.

This topic is in the archives and beat all to pieces.

I weld on stuff with out the battery unhooked. I keep the grd on the piece of metal I am welding. If you have a ton of on board computer equipment it might be a reasonable thing to do.

Does it hurt to unhook the battery? NO! Is it necessary to unhook battery? NO! (I'd unhook and remove battery if I was welding in the proximity of the battery and its gas).

Depending upon which model Kubota you have, it may be very simple to remove the bucket. I agree with Mark that this would be the prudent thing to do if it is not a PIA task, but I have seen many instances where welding was done and no precautions taken and all worked out fine.

I thought any damaging current would go through the ground? I've welded many different machines in my day and never even thought of this. From cars, motorcycles, lawn mowers and even several tractors and never had any issues?

What am I missing. I guess I've been lucky!

Lots of misinfo out there and a lot of wannabes that heard a rumor...

Problem: if you are welding on the frame and have the ground hooked close that is good. BUT then decide to tack a bracket to the engine and maybe the ground strap to the frame is not so good and you did not move your ground clamp that causes a problem, Maybe.

You you be amazed at the amount of wannabes that hook up the ground to the frame and weld something that runs inside of bearings.

The list can go on forever.
