I have 35 hrs on my bx now and its almost wintertime and I figure I will put about 15 to 20 hours on it during the winter. I dont feel like doing a 50hr serv in the cold(no heated garage) Do you think its all right to go over 5hrs before I do the service. This way I can do it in the spring time

It's a guideline, not a limit. You will incur no damage if you go over a few hours.

Eric, normally they recommend warming an engine before draining the oil so you can keep warm huddling around your tractor while it's draining. Be sure to leave the oil on a register so it woll pour easier. Don't worry about it as five hours over is far better then what many do but just don't be afraid to check it for level and condition.

Why not just do the 50 hr service now? On a new engine you can't really change oil too early. Right now you have more metal particles in your oil than you ever will again. I would rather go 10 hrs or so over before the second change than the first. Get it done now and you'll be all set to go in the spring.
Dave

I just got my 50 hr service done at 46.8 hours on my JD. Better to do it now than later. I'm close to the dealer, they want $35 to pick up the tractor, and I don't own a trailer. So I just drove it over to the dealership. Knowing winter is on it's way, I figured early service is better than freezing the acorns off driving in December.
