I need some help determining the best way to tow my garden trailer around.

1. Do I use the single tongue drawbar?
2. Do I get the crossbar for the two point?
3. Is there a 3 point hitch arrangent? Links?

Secondly, I am about to buy a set of chains with rubber crosspieces . Has anyone had any experience with these chains. I have a paved driveway so I was concerned witht the weight and steel chains.

As always I thank all of you who take the time to respond.

RD

I have a utility trailer that I use with my Truck and SUV, and it is small enough that I can use it around the yard with my B7610. If you have a ball type tongue one of the the three point receiver hitches like the Bad River or the Summit Fab hitches work great. I have the Bad River hitch and it is nice how it gets the trailer pivot point out, plus it gives your 3pt something to do when it is not hooked up to an implement ;--).

I have a small trailer that was originally the back of an old small pickup. I mean old as it is probably 1920's. I have towed it both ways but with the larger tractor I can us the 3 pt to dump the trailer. The 3 pt hitch is best the 2 pt is difficult to back up and will twist the ball or pin.

It is normally recommended to hook trailers to the fixed drawbar. The chains? Why? With a blacktop driveway you would have the most traction with turf tires.

I think I will look at the Bad River Hitch with the drawbar. Does anyone know where to buy?

My driveway has a very steep spot at the top cars trucks and even tractors tend to spin there. I was thinking the rubberized chains were a nice compromise. I was curious if anyone had used them. A Kubota dealer by Hershey PA had recommended them to me.

Thanks Guys!

Here's the link to Bad River. When I bought a couple years ago they were very helpful in answering all my questions.

The 7510/7610's have a nice drawbar that accepts a ball, and extends out to where you can reach it. The advantage to the drawbar vs 3ph is safety. The pull creates a moment that keeps the front wheels on the ground (you want the ball below the axle and close to the tractor). It's in the manual.

I'm a believer in usisng the drawbar. It is below the rear axle, which eliminates the tendency for torque over as the previous poster mentioned. If you tow from a point above the rear axle, you add to the torque over momnet created from the tongue weight and the "pull". Towing from below the rear axle eliminates the "pull" component of the torque over moment, and in fact adds to the stability of the tractor.

For light loads, it isn't an issue. When we pulled the torqued over 8N off my neighbor a couple years ago, he thinks he remembers that the load was supposed to be light. He's lucky to be able to remember anything at all.

All manufacturers will recommend towing from the drawbar.

I'll echo the others. The best place for a ball hitch is the factory drawbar. I mounted a 2" ball on my drawbar to do exactly the same thing you are. It works great. Since my factory drawbar is not removable, I still use a 2-point drawbar for lightweight towing of implements with a clevis-type hitch. The 2-point drawbar can also be used as an aid to help couple the ball hitch if your trailer is too heavy to lift. Run a chain over the drawbar, lift the tongue with the 3PH, and slowly lower it onto the ball. Voila!
