Just how difficult is it to install and remove the mower deck?? My dealer is saying he recommends a rear finish mower, but then I would have to remove the BH. Which would be the least effort?

Such a dilemma! The only thing that might happen from this is the ground gets extrememly compacted and of coarse the grass doesn't grow. I'd be taking it off even with it being a bit intimitaing initially. I certainly after having the option of both mowers find it really hard to beat the cut of the belly mower. The thought that you can operate the hoe with the belly mower on and that you only need to remove the hoe and you don't need to add the three point hitch makes me happy. I would remove the deck for heavy excavation but otherwise happy digging!

Jerry,

Speaking from experience as a new BX23 owner (40 hours total) with a 60" MMM, I have to say that switching implements is very easy. I took off the MMM in about 10 minutes for the first time, and can likely do it in 5 now that I understand the process. I'm in the middle of landscaping my front yard and need to switch between the backhoe and 3pt hitch + box scraper every few days. I can do both in a total of 15-20 minutes. I think you'll find that switching implements on the BX23 is easy enough that it should not be a significant factor in the mid-mount -vs- rear-mount debate.

Hey BX23Fan,

Now that you're at 40 hours, what did the dealer tell you about how hard you can work it upto the 50 hour service?

Do you have to go easy on it until then?

Art can you want to chime in? What are the pre-50 hour service work rules?

Can you work it hard from hour 1?

Thanks,

DT.

I didn't have 50 hours to sunday-drive my tractor, so I'm sure I pushed it a bit more than I should have. Based on the recommendations in the manual, I kept the engine at probably mid-throttle for most operations. I occasionally had to go full throttle for heavier work and lowered the RPMs afterward. I'm a tractor newbie, too, so I just used as much common sense as I could muster. In my opinion (which isn't worth much, really), the most important thing you can do to ensure a long lived motor is to stay on top of the maintenance schedule. The initial 50-hour oil change is going to be critical because of the metal fragments that are floating around in the oil & filter. I will stop what I'm doing and change the oil at 50.0 hours.
