 Need some advice -- considering a B2150HSD vs a new B2410

Hello Members,

My wife & I just purchased a home with 6 acres of pasture & mixed hardwood forest land. Gently sloping with gravel roads & no fencing yet.

Our main use for the tractor is basic:

> Gravel & Dirt movement
> Road maintenance
> work in our fruit tree orchard and in our blueberry fields
> Hauling of firewood
> Fence work, etc.

We just came upon an opportunity to purchase a gently used 1999 B2150HSD 4WD with an LA350 FEL that has only 251hrs on it. The older couple selling it has been using it only to haul firewood and debri, on his 5 acre property, and they are the original owners.

They are asking $12,000

A local Kubota dealer says for about $2.5K more we could come buy a new B2410 with a FEL.

We are not in a huge rush, but dont want to pass on a good opportunity if this B2150HSD is a solid find. The extra $$ saved could go to some additional needed implements.

Your help & opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Paul

Welcome to Tractorpoint. If you are financing you may find that the lower Kubota interest rate on new will narrow that price gap a significant amount.

Are you sure that B2150HSD is a 1999? Machinerylink says they were only made from 1990-1996. I'm not real familiar with these Kubotas but $12k price seems $1-2k too high to me.

Hi kwschumm,

Thank you for the reply.

It is possible that the model is actually a B2150HST 4WD.

The couples add read "B2150HSD" but the unit itself had "HST" labeled on the side of it. They may well have been a coincidence that the type-o made by the local newspaper was an actual model. Not sure.

Could that be more accurate?

We can afford to pay for the unit outright, but I have just read about the 0% financing that Kubota is offering. May as well use there money instead of ours -- I could make a a few % in interest in the meantime via our bank.

Good point kwschumm. Thanks!

I am going to test drive the B2410 this afternoon at our local dealer.

Do you have any feelings on the 4 cylinder vs 3 cylinder, B2150 vs. B2410 respectively.

Thanks again,

Paul

I think HSD is correct. All things being equal, I'd rather have the 4 cyl since they generally seem a bit smoother, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with a 3-cyl. Lots of them are working their hearts out every day. In other words it's probably not an issue.

The equivelent to the 2150 would be the 2710 or 2630 which is a three range hydro which gives far more flexibility in jobs. The middle range which gives you speeds to 7 mph which is a great speed for most all yard chores and especially handy for digging and moving loads. The low range in both the 7610 and the 2150 is good to about 3mph and the high range is good for 11 to 14 mph. There are also larger tires as well as digging force. The newer tractors are quieter and are easier to find the controls to run and offer the flat platform vs the straddle design.

The gentleman with the B2150 just sold if for the full asking price - $12K. Honestly, I am a little surprised after doing research on the newer/current models & their price points.

I will be heading down to a local dealer to test drive the B7610 and possibly the B3430 too.

Thanks for your help gentleman!

Grass Valley? I'll bet you are going to Gold Country Kubota. Nice folks there.

Hi DRankin,
Yep, Gold Coutry Kubota is very close to me. They had a nice display at the Country Fair this year too. I was also pointed to Holt in Yuba City (they carry both Cat's Challenger Line & Kubota).

There is a B-3030 and an L-3430 but not one of the two. They definitly have two different chassis weights and varing amounts of manuverability between the two chassis.
