 Keeping the BX23 FEL level

I'm still learning how to operate my tractor, and one thing I've not mastered yet is the ability to keep the FEL level. I see the level indicator on the bucket, but I don't understand how to use this indicator. My technique right now is to just stick my neck out and see if the bucket looks level. Not a good technique, I must admit, as the parallax effect still throws me off. My backgrading and turf cutting is wavy and doesn't look that good just yet.

How do I properly use the level indicator? What do I line it up with?

Thanks!

I don't have a BX but assume your level indicator is like others. Basically it is a rod that fits inside a piece of pipe and sticks out.

I use several colors of paint pens and paint stripes(rings) at several places around the projecting rod just above the end of pipe.

Drive your tractor on flat surface, put loader down and set bucket flat. Paint a ring around the shaft. Set the bucket to have a slight digging action like when you just want to scalp something. Paint another ring color. Do the same thing for a heavier digging action and paint another color.

The rod is usually rusty or will get so from being outside. From it sliding up and down eventually the paint will wear and need reapplication. If you have found positions that you are permanently happy with, take the narrow edge of a file and just put a flat spot on the rod facing in your direction for ease of view. Color code paint that spot and it won't wear.

If your BX23 is the same as my BX2230 you do not have the rod type level indicator. instead they give you a flat thing at the top of the bucket. I could also use some advice from others who know a whole lot more than me on how to use the bucket more efficiently. But what I do is try to make sure it looks as level as possible, rather than trying to look at the bottom of the bucket. You can see this from the seat on the right hand side of your bucket. It also does not help much when you want to just shave a little off the top With practice it gets better, but I still dig a hole once in while when I don't want to.

Our LA402 Loader has the flat bar indicator for level also. I think the best advise is to have some patience and practice. The bar indicator works well after you get the feel of what it's telling you. There isn't a perfect level indicator, since "level" is a relative term depending on the position of the tractor and the terrain. After a bit of practice, you develop a feel for where the bucket is and what the indicator is telling you.

I used to own a BX 2200. If it is the same, the bucket is level when the flat bar of the indicator is level. You still have to be able to eyeball the levelness of the indicator. You could tape a small level to the indicator and practice for a while. I hope this helps.
