I know there are a lot of new owners out there of the BX series. I changed my fuel filters tonight on my bx2200. It has 2 inline filters. Just some advice. Although this thing is fuel pump driven, the fuel lines seem to feed the fuel pump by gravity! Don't find out like I did when you are under it and yank a line out of one side of the 1sdt filter to find fuel pouring out. Bring soething to plug it down there with you. Or better yetr get a soft clamp and pinch off the line. I don't think there is a fuel shut off. This was the most miserable machine I've ever chaged a filter on. I am a big guy. The Japanese engineers must have little girl hands.

At 288 hours, my bottom filter closest to the tank was PACKED with black sludge. I couldn't believe it. It runs 100% better now. They suggest 500 hours for the first change. 289 and it was packed. the other filter wasn't as bad.

I'd check yur fuel storage as that sounds more like contaminated fuel.

I bought it with 150 hours on it. I've bought fuel from the local hick station over here up the street. I will be going to the truck stop from here on in for fresher fuel. I hear there is an actual alage or bacteria that grows in diesel fuel if there is some moisture in it which creates the black looking slime/sludge. Either way I'll be buying fuel from the Pilot truck stop now.

If your fuel tank has been contanimated you will have to remove tank and clean it out. Use a good mix of clorox and a grease removing soap and rinse real well. This is the best method.

The anti fungus killers are tough on fuel filters. I have used up to 5 filters on 4 fill ups and treatments burning 100+ gallons per day. Carry them right in the equipment and change at power loss. Even after you think the algie should be gone keep treating and the treatment with just a minute amount of moisture makes it feel like a varnish in the pre filter drains and on the filter elements.

Good Luck Harvey

The machine wasn't choking or anything, I just figured 500 hours was a lot for waiting on changing a filter. When I pulled off the first one I couldn't believe what it looked like. I hope I don't need to pull the tank off but we will watch it.

CThonestguy,
Reminds me of my 98 Explorer the first time I changed the fuel filter. I came out in a hurry soaked with gas just hoping the water heater in the garage didn't fire off. From then on I used some rubber plugs that came with a vacuum gage I bought one time to check EGR valves. There was a whole assortment of little cone shaped rubber stoppers you use when you pull off a vacuum line and need to plug it. They work great for fuel lines too.
