Best tractor to purchase for 10 acre lot.

I have purchased a 10 acre lot on a Minnesota lake and need to upgrade my JD288 to larger tractor with belly mower, loader and snowblower. There are a considerable amount of trees and some slope mowing on the property. Also would use tractor for tree trimming, hauling of fallen trees and brush, blading 0.2 of a mile of gravel drive and snowblowing of only 100' of the driveway. (Township plows remainder) Any helpful comments would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like something around 30hp would do fine (color does not really matter - but a hst for mowing and FEL work is great)

Folks with more experience than me might suggest you could get by with something less, but I bought a 3130HST last summer for my 14 hillside, heavily treed acres in Virginia that sounds a lot like yours, although with less snow. I don't use a belly mower or a snow blower, but I don't see how you could go wrong with an orange 3130HST. Coincidentally, that's right in line with what AnnBrush said, who, I think, has a lot more expertise than me.

If you don't need all the bells and whistles, buy an L3400. You'll save some dough as well! I have 40 Acres and it does me fine

I have a blue TC33D HST (33hp) and it is plenty for what you want to do.

Just a thought about the mower. With the other tasks listed, being able to lose the mower easily should really be considered.

My friend has a belly mower on his BX. It's in the way for about anything other than cutting the lawn that he tries top do. I guess it wouldn't be as much of an issue on a taller machine like the 30hp units others have recommended, but if you think a finishing mower could do the job, you may want to really consider it.

There are some other good posts on here about finishing mowers vs belly mowers.

I'm not finish cutting yet, so I can't speak to the quality of cut issues, but being able to have nothing under the tractor when doing brush clean up is a real plus.

A graple like kwschumm has would also be a great addition as well. I get by with a 4-in-1 bucket, but a grapel would be great.

I don't know about snow blowers either, but be sure you have all the required hydraulics. Adding later can be expensive on a stripped down unit like my B7800.

The big B-s like the 2910 or 3030 will give you the manuverability to manuver in a tighter area then the small L-s like the 3130 will. The B-s are lighter, shorter, lower and narrower. The L's carry more weight which is good for the grading and loader work. They both start out close in price and the L may look like more bang for the buck but they still only take a 72" belly deck so the manuverability plus of the B and the fact of it being lighter for the lawn will give better overall results and less trade-off.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Art White commented on two of the points that I have been considering, that being the manuverability of the tractor and also less weight which would do less damage to the lawn. I had been considering a B2630 but in looking at the specs, I see that the main differances are the HP and the better seat, of course also more money. Also have been considering a 60" underbelly mover due to the unevenness of the acreage. There are some short slopes which prevent going up and down while mowing which might make a 72" just to wide. The other thing is that I have not owned a mower wider than 42", so my experience is limited regarding how the wider mowers operate. Thanks again. ab
