A five foot tiller would be max in my opinion and most tillers allow for an offset to cover one tire or the other (usually the right one!!

I just bought a Land Pride see link

Your tractor would easily handle a 6' tiller, we've put a 5' on a BX2230. Just stay away from the "no-name" brands. Tillers for the most part DON'T take a lot of HP to run, unless you're trying to turn a shalebank into a flowerbed.
Don't be afraid of buying the bigger tiller, try one first and you'll see what I mean.
I'm sorry that you feel that way Archdean, but all of the BX series will lift 1200lbs at the 3pt and 600lbs 2' behind. Tillers do come in more than 1 grade of quality, that's why they make standard and heavy-duty implements. Not all applications are the same. NOTE: these customers are extremly satisfied with this unit.

IMO If you put a 5' tiller on a BX anything you did the customer a disservice!
A 6' tiller built by anyone with a good reputation will weigh over 600 pounds, again that is a lot of weight and assuming you do not use a front end loader you will need some serious front ballast!
I have no doubt the questioner's tractor has the pto power to handel a six foot tiller, I still advise he stay with a Name Brand and no more than a FIVE foot tiller for that machine!ease of manuvering and etc!

jd did say he was looking at a King Kutter tiller.
The King Kutter II is a very good tiller.
I have had one for around 5 years and recommend them.

You didn't say as to if you had a hydro transmission or not but I'd say most all conditions you should be fine with a 72". Most tillers do have the ability to move them offset from the tractor to make it easy to cover one track.

When it comes to the PTO more horsepower or not a hydro will out work a gear drive because of the infinite speeds. Do you have the GLideshift or just the DT? If you have the DT try for a unit closer to the 60" the Glideshift gives a little more flexibility and if you look at lines like Kuhn they do offer models in the 5'5" width which would just cover your tracks.
