 B7800 stopped starting

Started my B7800 after a month in the garage and drove it out to the driveway. Ran for 5 minutes then turned it off to answer the phone in the house. Came back and now it won't turn over. Glow plug indicator lights up, but no click or anything when I turn it to start. Side interlocks on PTOs tested OK and no fuses blown. Any ideas? Could it be the relay, and where is it located?

Could be the starter fuse. Check the 30 amp solenoid fuse. Could be your problem. Look on page 65
of your owners manual for the location. Hope this helps.

If the fuses are all good, check the battery terminal connections and starter. Also check under the console to make sure the wires going to your ignition switch are still on. If that don't work, gently tap the starter solenoid with a rubber mallot. Also, sometimes a blast of warm air from a hair dryer or Mr. Heater directly on the starter may help. May have some moisture or condensation from setting around.

Turn on your head lights. If they are bright, then the battery is probably OK, but could be a little weak. If dim, then either a really weak battery or a bad connection. If the lights are bright, leave the lights on and try to start the tractor. If the lights dim, you probably got a bad battery cable connection or weak battery. Clean all connections and try again. If no change, then have the battery checked. If the lights don't dim and the starter does not try to turn over, then there is no current going to the starter. Either a bad connection in your starting circuit or one of your safety interlocks is not made.

That is not unheard of, best we can guess is it's caused by partly warming it up then turning it back off. As it cools the moisture in the starter solenoid turns to frost and prevents it from engaging the starter.

I know the aforementioned gentle bump or heat both work, but are a PITA.

Best of luck.

You had asked earlier where the starter relay is. The stater relay and the voltage regulator are mounted in a common bracket on the right side of the firewall. They should be pretty easy to get to.

I thought I already posted this, but maybe it is on the wrong thread somewhere.

It occured to me that when my tractor was delivered, the dealer handed me an extra fuse and said that there is a fuse in the stater system that has a tendency to pop. He said if the tractor didn't start, check the fuse. Unfortunately, I don't remeber where he told me it was, but I don't remember it being in the fuse holder. You may want to chase down the starter harness and see if there isn't an in-line fuse somewhere.

Sorry I can't remember where he said it was. I may take a walk out to the barn and have a peek at the fuse he gave me. I'll let you know.

I checked the extra fuse the dealer gave me last night. It is the relay fuse for the fuse box.
