 790 vs. 4110

I purchased a JD 790 & wow what a big tractor. We live on a very large hill. My driveway is blacktop & approximately 1100 ft. winding up a hill. I bought the tractor to help with filling the run offs on the sides of the drive. I found the 790 to be a pain while trying to work the loader while working the gears on the hill. So I traded for the 4110. The dealer tells me the 4110 is only $300.00 less than the 790. Both came equipped with a front loader & rear weight box. Does this sound right? I cant believe I am dropping from a 30 hp to a 20 hp, much smaller tractor and only saving $300. Please advise of your thoughts.

You are going from an economy tractor, with no frills, to a Hydro tractor with a lot of new technology built in. The hydrostatic transmission alone makes up most of the difference, along with the 3-point hydralics. Take a good look at the differences besides the horsepower of the engine.

Boy, I wouldn’t be trading down, you now have a feel and are use to the power of the 790, and I think you might be disappointed. If I had to switch to hydro I would be looking to at least go larger or the same hp.

Is there any way to do your work at a different angle and ride the brake when necessary to keep you from rolling, which seems to work for me?

I stayed away from the hydros because there was too many electric switches for a machine I want to last my life time and be in the elements, also there have been some discussion of people on steep grades having problem with loosing hydro fluid pick up. I also believe that some horse power is lost through the hydro compared to the gear........ That’s just my 2 1/2 cents maybe more! Laughing out loud Good Luck!!
