 Fuel filter

I got some bad fuel..had water & crude in it..and the way I discovered it was when running a full throttle. The engine started to run rough and smoke. It lost power as well. Pulling back on the throttle cleaned it up.

It was like the available fuel flow wasn't enough for full power but enough for lower settings. This would indicate that the filter stops water and as the bowl gets more water the fuel flow reduces by the amount of uncontaminated filter. Is the filter on the 2210 a water stopper?

 Fuel filter

I think water collects at the bottom of most all filter bowls. I think it's a toss up whether the filter stops it or it just collects at the bottom.

There's usually a bit of water in the bowl when I change filters and my manual says to visually check the bowl periodically and empty the bowl if water can be seen. So I guess that's what supposed to happen. There's never been enough to be seen by a visual inspection but I imagine it would stop the engine is enough water collected in the bowl.

Sounds like your fuel filter did exaxtly what is was supposed to do. Fuel oil is lighter than water, and will naturally separate at the fuel filter bowl.
