I used my JD4400 to cut grass for the first time yesterday, the tractor ran about 20 minutes when it cut off just as if I had turned the ign switch off it started right back up and ran about 5 minutes and done it again, it done this several times. I believe that I had read that some one else had the same problem, but dont know what it was, can someone help. thanks!

It sounds to me like water or air in your fuel. Why don't you try checking your fuel sediment bowl for signs of air or water. If air is present, the bowl will not be full.If water got into the fuel, you will see a separation in the fuel at the bowl. Also check to see if the fuel is turned on "ALL the WAY".

I commented on another individuals problem similar to yours. I have a 4300 which, at 15 hrs., did the same thing. My dealer went through several checks of all of the safety cutoff switches, fuel solenoid, etc., with no sucess. A JD tech helped my service technician locate a thermal fuse, behind the fuse panel, which was faulty. (I belive it's called a "thermister") It is normally designed to shut the machine down at excessively high temperatures. My machine was shutting down at normal temperatures, then, after a short cooling period, a restart was possible. I've logged 160 hrs. since the repair without any stalling or other problems.Hope this helps. If you need more, drop me a note.Lou

Lou sounds like you hit the nail on the head, I ran my tractor today it seems to take longer to cut off but finally cut off. I noticed yesterday when I opened the fuse box door, there were a couple of relays that were very hot, so to day I switch then with some of the other that werent and it never cut off again, wonder if this could be the same part your talking about. Any how Iam going to talk to the dealer Monday and see what he says, and I believe I will ask him about the thermister, thanks for everyone insite!

I have a F725 JD front-end mower that from the git-go use to stop out of the blue. THE long and short of it was the gas tank has a long clear plastic tube for air that comes off the top of the tank and winds around and goes down vetically. This tube was 2 inches too long and pinched shut between the gas tank and the frame. Of course part of trouble-shooting was removing the gas cap and that relieved the vacumn.I discovered this when I took the tank off looking for the infamous soy bean or other similar thing being suck into the gas line

Terry,Swapping the circuit breakers initially worked for me too. Days later the problem resurfaced. The fuse link they repaired required the dealer to remove the fuse box and solder the replacement in. Glad to hear your running; check with your dealer and please pass along the outcome. Thanks,Lou

I had a similar problem with a 4300 HST a few weeks ago. I had less than 10 hours on it and it would cut out exactly as if the ignition was switched off. I believe that this is an electrical problem and not fuel related due the instant shut off of the engine. I had a JD service rep come out and told him about the "thermister" that I had heard about from others on this board. He did not know of this, but was willing to look into it. While he was here, he simple reseated the relays in the fuse panel and the problem has not resurfaced again. I will keep you informed if the problem re appears. I'd appreciate it if you could keep us updated on what transpires with yours, because I suspect that this problem will appear over and over again.

Tracey I also talked to my dealer and told him of my problem and how one of the relays seem very hot and that I changed it with one that was cooler, he offered to repaced that one but I told him that I would use it in the next couple of days and let him know if it cut off again. The relay I changed was the safty cut off relay, I suspected this is the problem, being an auto tech for 25 years and dealing with such problems like this. Ill keep you posted on what happen, and thanks for your input.
