One question. Is the degree of drop when you lower 3ph with the rock shaft lever controlable. In other words is there a way to rig it so that the 3ph drops to the same position each time the attachment is lowered.

I was thinking along the lines of welding a chain hook near the end of each draft arm. Maybe an eye at the base of the top link. The idea being to calibrate the chain links to limit the amount of downward travel.
I sort of remember someone disscussing such a rig on one of these boards. I was hoping somebody already had the engineering figured out.

I know some of the older bigger tractors have that slide thing with a wing nut to have the 3 point hitch lever go down to the same position each time. I'd be careful using chains especially anywhere near the PTO. We tried using a chain on a rotary cutter to hold it up as we broke the top link connection and the chain caught the grease fitting on the overrun coupler and snapped the PTO shaft right off like nothing. Never even attempted to stall the tractor.

That was certainly a selling point for me to go to above the entry level tractor.... I really like the position control on my 4115.

When I had the stop/drop system like yours on the BX22 I was working on a guide rod for the 3 point that would function like the rod on Deere FEL's. I didn't get too far with it before I decided to sell the tractor.

I think a visual gauge is a better way to go than a limiting chain.

Just curious what the application is. I do have position control but I've never used the depth lock feature. I think of plows as the usual reason for wanting to set the same depth but it possibly would be useful for tillers and mowers as well. I don't have any of those and just getting the top-link adjustment right and giving the 3ph enough float to follow the ground contour works OK for me.

Don't attach anything extraneous between the lift arms and the toplink hinge plate or the toplink assembly. First, you would be disrupting the dynamics of the 3PH and transferring weight from the load-bearing lift arms to the weakest part of the hitch. Second, there is a known issue with the Toplink hinge plate attachment and you could possibly void your warranty on the plate assembly, tranny, and rockshaft. Use tape or paint on the PTO drive shafts of your PTO equipment, and practice with the ground engaging stuff. You'll get beter.
