 2210 Should I buy

Have five acres in SC that I will live on and keep about an acre in grass, an acre in garden, an acre or two for a small orchard and keep an acre uncleared. Have been considering the 2210 with a loader, pull behind mower and plow.

I could use some advice from those who own this machine. Is it a good buy? Does it have enough power, etc. Would a bigger machine be better?

Thanks,

Tom

A 2210 is a good machine. You can shop around for a good deal, but in my experience, JD dealers are pretty firm on their pricing. It may be different where you live.

Power requirements often boil down to personal choice. Often a bigger tractor will let you finish the work more quickly but they cost more to buy and operate. All of the tasks that you mentioned can be handled by the 2210.

I chose a bigger tractor because I handle and move large loads with a front end loader and wanted the extra weight and capacity. You did not mention that type of use, so a smaller machine should be fine.

 2210 Should I buy

I have had a 2210,fel,mmm,for 3 months and I have yet to feel I was short of power. I just bought a 6' landscape rake and it had no problem doing the task. It is a very strong machine for its frame. It was a great investment, I have many reasons to go fire it up and spend plenty of time on it. The trick is to match up the right attachment to the 2210, It does not have the weight you need, like the next size up tractor (ie 4000 series, and boomer etc.).

 2210 Should I buy

I have had my JD 2210 for about 6-months now, and found itís power to be adequate for what I need. I have 2.5ac total and mow about 1.25ac of very steep hilly lawn. Sometimes on the steepest areas it seems to really put a load on the engine, but itís always able to power through it. The FEL has more than enough power. I have moved about 25yds of dirt and 8yds or crushed stone, with the 49Ē bucket heaping full, no trouble.

However, I donít think youíll have enough power or weight (for traction) to pull a plow. I have a 48Ē box blade, and if I try to take too big a bite with the cutting edge, Iíll loose traction and have to lift the box a bit to take a little less. However, pulling the box blade with only the 4-shanks, about 3Ē deep hasnít been a problem, and does a good job at breaking up the earth.

Have had my 2210 for 6 weeks and 40 hours of use. I've been pulling stumps using a ripper on the 3ph and hauling top soil with the 53" bucket. It does alot more than I thought it would and fits into tighter spots than the larger models. I'm totally satisfied.
