 JD vs Kubota

I am researching to buy either a John Derre 4100 or a Kubota 2200/2400. My main purpose is mowing lawn and moving wood/mulch around and occasional Landscape Use. Does anyone have any suggestions or pros/cons regaurding either of these tractors? Also how are the R4 Industrial type tires for mowing? Do they dig the lawn up much? And finally how is the resale on John Deere vs Kubota? Thanks for any info.

I recently went through the same thing you are. I was also looking for something with a front-end loader. Have you looked at the new John Deere 2210? I choose the 2210 over the Kubota because of the better features. I purchased my 2210 with a 62" mid mount deck, a loader, and it works just great. The tractor has more than enough power, plus feature not offered on the Kubota. I used both, and the John Deere was a no brainer for me. I suggest you look at the 2210 before purchasing the 4100, unless you need something that big? If you haven't seen the 2210, you may find it to be all you need.

The Kubota 2400 would give you a bit more power than the 4100 and would be about as small as I would want for landscape/loader work. I owned a 4100, nice tractor but I thought it a bit underpowered and front end heavy with the loader attached. I like the R-4 rubber, but there is a downside to everything, check the prior threads there are plenty on tires.

Just personal preference, but I did not care for the J/D belly mower either. It is not a full floating deck and does not mow as nice as the Kubota or N/H on uneven ground.

Is your ground wet? The BX 2200 would be a wiser choice as it is lighter ground contact. Just think of being able to have a great looking lawn and not have to areate it all the time. The deck is suspended so it doesn't ride on the lawn but hangs from the tractor. The low center of gravity makes it good on hillsides. The lower hoods as well as the tractor in general will get under trees easier and with the overhang of a 60" deck on a tractor that width would make trimming easy. Unless you had enough acrege to justify going to a 72" deck you wouldn't need much more, or would there be much difference in the ability of the tractor.
