 Cruise control on 4300

Got a '99 4300 HST, that I bought new, and never really used the cruise control. I always thought that you had to turn off the dashboard switch to disengage it, but I just happend to glance in the owners manual and I found out that it works like a car, you step on the master brake, it turns off. On my 4300 I step on the brake (master brake on the right side) and it keeps going. I looked around under the tractor for some type of switch on the brake linkage to disengage the cruise, couldn't find it. I figure there must be something that never got hooked up, I have one of the early models and maybe this got overlooked. Tractor is off of waranty so I'm on my own. If anybody has any ideas I would be most thankfull.

That's possible, I've also lack of use cause the slideing parts of the latch mechanism become corroded and it will not work well. A little WD 40 should do the trick. I am a dealer salesman, and will admit I have ever seen these apart, but have read a few work orders on the subject, that described your problem.

The brake switch on the 4300 is located behind the cowling on the right side. Removing this isn't too difficult. It will require a 10 mm wrench and a phillips screwdriver. Once in there you should be able to see how the switch works. You should be able to hear it click as you push on the pedal. If it doesn't you can adjust it. Deere changed the adjustment in that area a few times, so you may be dealing with a slot that allows adjustments or may have to add/remove shims. The lever on the switch can also be bent slightly if necessary to get the right range of motion.

I'm thinking that if the part has been upgraded maybe there'd be willingness from JD to provide an upgrade outside of warranty coverage. It does seem like a safety issue.
