PTO driven chipper recommendations for JD 770

I'm looking for a quality new or used chipper attachment to mount on my JD 770. I need at least a 5 inch diameter capacity. Anyone had experience with this type of attachment? Recommendations as to brands would sure be appreciated - comments on ease of installing/removing, durability, ease of servicing and where to find one at a decent price are needed.
(I'm also looking for a used front mounted 59 inch snow blower for this tractor, but that's a couple seasons away).

Thanks

John

I have a PATU DC-40 (4"Wink yeah right on my JD750, and it handles it easily. You could go up to a 5" no sweat. I've been happy with my PATU @ $2600. It's a no-frills manual feed.

Valby is another very popular name around here.

I gave up on the PTO chipper idea because of the price and excess capacity. Instead, I got a free standing Troybilt with a 10 horse Briggs & Stratton engine for just under 1K and put a spare garden trailer axle and a trailer hitch on it so I can tow it with the tractor. It chops the hell out of everything I put in it up to 2 inches thick. Around my house anything over 1 1/2 inches is called firewood anyway so there is no way I need a machine that will render a 5 inch log into splinters. In fact if we lived closer to one another, I might come to your house and releive you of those pesky 5 inch logs.

Hi John,

I have a Woods 5000 chipper/shredder. It's a pretty beefy unit and if you have the HP you can chip 5" logs!!
I have it on my 24HP B-2410 and it does 3"+ poplar and pine with little strain. It is manual or gravity feed and cost about $2500. Bush Hog also makes a similar unit. Good Luck.

Joe Timo
