John Deere 950 Tractor Electrical Wiring Diagram

I just bought an IT shop service manual for John Deere 850, 950, and 1050 (brand new...manual JD-47). I have never worked on a diesel before but do assume there would be less wiring than on a gas. Anyway does anybody know why there is no wiring diagram in the manual? The only reason I bought the manual was for the wiring diagram! None of my 3 dash indicators work and and I'd like to find out why. Does anybody have a copy of the wiring diagram for a 79' 950 that I can get access to?
Thanks
Ken

Ken, The JD Technical Manual for the 950 has wiring diagrams. (JD document TM-1192). I have a copy and can try to answer any specific questions you may have. Thanks Mark

John Deere 950 Tractor Electrical Wiring Diagram

I guess the problem is the oil, temp and charge fault lamps rather than the gauge illumination light. I'm assuming that the head lights, hour meter light and other accessories work.

I just took a brief look at Todd's pics. In general, it looks like a common hot wire feeds three sensor lamps and a lamp is lit when the indicated device is operating and completes a ground for the lamp. A separate circuit feeds the hour meter illumination lamp.

An open hot lead is the most likely cause of a problem that would affect all three indicator lamps. The hot lead goes from the starter switch, through a fuse and to the gauge. Wire colour codes should help testing the circuit. It also looks like a connection for optional turn signals is on the same circuit. If turn signals are present and work, the circuit is OK to that point. The plug may be a convenient testing point if turn signals aren't installed

The diagram indicates two wires coming off the starter switch terminal that feeds the indicator circuit. The second wire feeds the head light switch. It's a little difficult to trace the circuits conclusively without a diagram that gives which contacts are made in various starter switch positions. However, if the headlights and other accessories work, then it's likely the starter switch is OK and the problem is between the switch and gauge. Too bad about the IT manual. Don’t know why it wouldn’t have a wiring diagram. I suppose the manual does some things better than a factory manual. I’d probably buy both as well as a parts manual just to have as much information about the tractor as possible.

Hay no problem. Let me know if you need anything else. Sometimes slow to respond as I am a very busy person. Really over all there isnt much to the wiring on the 950. Could be why the IT didnt contain anything.

Todd
