 JD Hydro v. Kubota HST

I've narrowed my search to JD 4100 hydro or Kubota B2100 HST. Quotes arevirtually identical: $20,500 (incl. 8% tax) for tractor w/ hydro or HST,tiller, flail mower, drill w/ downpressure, and box scraper. The loader comesnext year. The Kubota dealer insists the Deere hydro drive is jerky & hard tocontrol--especially when starting. My test drive didn't scare me away from theDeere. Any 4100 owners find the hydro drive to be jerky? Thanks for your help.

I have a 4100 HST and do not find the hydro jerky. However, there is a distinction between the hydro operation of these 2 tractors that I think is important. On the JD, the forward and reverse hydro pedals and master (parking) brake are controlled by the right foot and the 2 turning brakes are controlled by the left foot. In making a sharp turn you use both feet. This is also helpful in close quarter manuvering when you want to be able to control the direction carefully and be prepared to brake (such as backing up to an implement in a shed). With the other tractor all of the hydro controls and brake pedals are on the right side so you cannot simultaneously apply brakes and the hydro control. Take a test drive on each and see what you think.

You can use both the hydro pedal and the brake at the same time with the Kubota. There is no reason why you can't put your left foot over on the right side and use one foot for each pedal. I agree take a test drive and try it, it is even easier to do than it is to describe. If a backhoe may ever be in the future for either you or the next owner, then the 4100 is not the one.

I have put over 30 hrs on my new 4100 in the last month, It is not jerky in any way shape or form, smooth sailing. P.S. turning brakes are nice at the end of a row or in tight quarters.

Except for the comment about the backhoe (the 4100 has a problem there that's prettywell documented.) I'd recommend that you go with the machine that has the best dealer. You're going to have that tractor for 20 years. If you pick a dealer youdon't like then you're gonna suffer forever.JD and Kubota are both quality machines you won't go wrong with either one.
