Hello,I have an opportunity to buy a '97 JD 855 w/FEL, loader mounted curtis plow and custom built 5'x4' TPH weight box with ag tires, 280hrs for $13000. I am thinking about buying a set of turf tires on rims for it and pulling a rear mount 6' finish mower that I already own.Has anyone out there had experience mowing with this combo? Do you think the 855 has enough HP at the PTO for this?PS... I mow about 3 acres and plow a 900' steep gravel driveway in upstate NY. My other options are to spend about $16000 for a new B2710 w/FEL but no plow (this year) or $17550 for a JD 4200 w/FEL, or keep waiting for the perfect used tractor to come my way.Any advise is much appreciated.Jeff

Jeff: All I can tell you is that some JD literature I have says the JD855 was/is compatible with the JD272 (i.e. a 72 inch) 3-point hitch mower. The literature says even a JD755, with 4 less PTO horsepower, could handle a six foot rear mower, so you should have no problem. However, since I've never had an 855, I can't give you a first hand opinion of how they perform. Anyway, have fun shopping. ....

I mowed 7 acres with first a 755 then a 955, both with the 272 mower -- both performed fine.
Now I have a 4700 with a Landpride FDR25-84" rear discharge. Strongly recommend the rear discharge feature, especially if you can't mow frequently and regularly. ....

It is interesting that you said that a rear discharge works well especially if you can't mow regularly. I felt just the opposite as taller grass always seems to winrow more often. With a side mower you can at least throw the clipping off to the side the cut over on the next pass as with the center discharge you have to basically go over the last cutting ....

Re the rear vs side discharge for mowing:
I've mowed using the 272 for 8 years and found it to build up its own windrow -- you can overmow the windrow, but that just moves the windrow. The rear discharge doesn't disperse the cuttings uniformly, but at least it doesn't create one large windrow -- spreads cuttings enough to prevent suffocating the grass.
jimp ....
