 JD 4100 & 60" Belly Mower

I'm planned to mow a two acre lot using a JD 4100 HST with 60" inch belly mower until a salesman told me he thought it would be better to go with the 54" mower. I've got a Gravely with 50" mower now, so if I can't use the 60" on the JD 4100 I'll have to go to a larger tractor. I mow the lot at about 4" height now and rarely does it get over 7" before I cut it. Anyone got experience with the 4100 with 60" mower? thanks in advance!

Patrick, I have a 4100 with a 54". It can mow through a high grass. I have mowed grass well above 6". When the grass is wet, of course it bogs down. But, as long as the grass is dry, the 54" should be fine. If my memory serves me right, the cost difference between the 54" and 60" was significant. I couldn't justify the difference in price for a 6" wider mowing path and the dealer I worked with agreed. Hope this opine helps.

Patrick;
I believe the 4100 would spin the 60" without any problem. I had a 750 (similar HP) with a 60" finish mower and had less of a problem than the 48" brush cutter.

You should have no problem with the 60" mower on the 4100. I bought a 54" just because of the significant cost difference. But the 54" handles just about anything I've tried to mow. I can't imagine another 6" of blades really making that much difference. In retrospect, I should have gone with the 60" deck, because it is actually easier to trim up close to things with (farther out from the wheels).

I agree with the earlier posts about the deck (54"vs.60"Wink yeah right. I have the 54" becasue of the cost difference. The 60" deck
costs 33% more (about 1500 vs 2000 dollars). In any case, I do not think the 4100 will have any problem with a 60"
deck. I, like others, have found the machine powers the 54" very well.

Thank you all for your input...I think I got bad info from the salesman. BTW, the dealer I was talking with sells more Kubota than JD!

I have a 4100 with 60" belly mower. No problem cutting with it. It works well in cutting everything from light brush to lawn grass.
