Yup. Model R, built 1949 to 1954. Descendents are the 80, 820 and 830

The model R. Now there was a tractor! And similar to the smaller compacts of today in that it only had two cylinders......uh...two rather LARGE cylinders.

Roger I'd get a kick out of watching you mow a yard with a JD R. I always love to work with a hand clutch, about once a year probably enough, it gives me a food feeling to see how far tractors have come.

On the other hand, try pulling 5-16's with yer Kubota ":^) According to my reference, the 80, which was the next generation of the R, displaced 471 cubic inches. Them's BIG holes!

As a kid those BIG JD-Rs were impressive. I remember they had a small "pony" gas engine instead of an electric starter motor to turn them over. Boy, could they lug through the tough spots while plowing, chopping, etc.
