 JD model confusion/comparison

Looking at the JD web site, I was not clear as to the difference between the JD 790 and a similar powered 4000 like the JD 4300. Has the 790 been replaced by the 4000 series like the 55 series was ?

Just this weekend I asked the same question of the local JD dealer. He said the 790 was developed for a particular price point that, apparently, the 4000 series was not addressing. He said the lineage is more from the 55 [or was it 70?] series and the options are limited - like no HST, R4, etc. He did not seem like he thought much of the tractor.Doug

JD 790 is still the old Japanese made tractor model with a few upgrades, such as increased hp. The new 4000series tractors are USA made(although I bet there are some Japanese parts). Before the 4000 series tractorsyou couldn't get a Deere dealer to say anything bad about their compacts, now since the 4000 series has comeout they rave over how much better these new ones are. Bottom line, if you liked the older model Deere compactsyou'll like the 790 especially with the increased HP.
