No info on the 1250's. Didn't they sell? Problems? Can't even find one advertised for sale. Information appreciated.

CW Dont know the hp, or history of these machines, but priced some locally recently. One $11,900 and the other for $15,900. The difference was amount of hours and condition. Hope this helps. ....

C.W., the 1250 was one step larger than the 1050. I think the HP was around 38 pto HP. Deere also marketed a 1450 and a 1650 which seem to be even more scarce than the 1250. I was under the impression that they were just as reliable as the smaller 50 series. I think they were not popular because they were same HP rating as the 2040, 2240, and 2440 tractors, which were sold at the same time(late 70's - early 80's).

CW,according to my JD Tractor book (1918-1994)
At the time they were tested at the Nebraska Test Center, the 1250,1450 and 1650 Tractors set nine records for fuel efficiency and lugging ability. The 1650 was the most fuel-efficient tractor ever tested, regardless of horsepower.
The 1450 ranked number one among "currently available" tractors in the 45-to 55-hp class.
In the category for 35-to 45-hp, the 1250 offered the greatest lugging ability at 80% of rated engine rpm among tractors tested at this time.
The 1250 was powered by a naturally-aspirated 143 cu.in.3-cylinder diesel engine, while a 190 cu.in.4-cylinder diesel powered the 1450 (naturally aspirated) and 1650 (turbocharged). All three models had 3-range sliding-gear collar-shift transmissions giving nine forward and three reverse speeds.
The 1250 was rated at 40.70 PTO hp, the 1450 at 51.39 PTO hp, and the 1650 at 62.22 PTO hp.
The 1250 Serial #s
1982........1001
1983........1256
1984........3001
1985........4001
1986........5001
1987........5501
1988........5785
The low proudction numbers explains why they are hard to find.
Hope this helps.

I know the specs on the 1250 and I appreciate the serial number info. I'm looking for history from owners. I had a 750MFWD and the fuel economy and it's ability to lug really made it shine. Later, had a 970MFWD and though it's economy and pto hp were fine, it didn't lug well. The dealer wouldn't stand behind it and was having problems, so traded for Kubota L35 TLB. Still, I need more pto than the L35 produces and was looking for a 40 pto machine and thought the JD1250 MFWD would be right up my alley for 6' bushogging and 6 1/2' wet snowblowing. But want to know about longevity, durability, economy and performance. CW ....
