Installing 3 RD SCV on JD 4400

Is installing a 3 rd SCV a job that has to be done by a dealer? Can a person with average mechanical skill do this?

Danny, I took a 4300 to the dealer today to have a 3rd SCV installed. His installation fee was $80. You have to remove the right rear tire and fender to install it. I was told that it was about 2 hours for a person with he knowledge and tools but anybody with good mechanical skills should be able to do it in 4-6 hours. The kit to do it is $220.

I don't understand why a 3rd SCV could not be plumbed directly into the existing remotes on your machine. It should only be a matter of putting it between the existing valves and the return line. Am I mising something or is a JD that different from my Kubotas? We do this regularly, it takes about 15 minutes to do, including getting the tools out & putting them back.

Here is the deal on the 3rd scv(not 4th or 5th). The 4200-4700 tractors come with the 3rd valve built into the dual scv body. The kit you buy comes with handle/cable assembly and plubming to operate the valve and get the oil to the rear of the tractor. That is why the first remote outlet(3rd scv) is fairly cheap compared to other manufacturers. Likewise the addition of a 4th or 5th remote will cost substatially more because you must buy the entire valve in addition to the handle/cable and plumbing.
Hope this is clear.
Randy

I got my tractor back today and, seeing it hooked up, after you did it once or twice it would not be a big deal. I also got a hydraulic cylinder but when I tried to use it on the box blade it would stand the thing straight up in the air or lower it no lower than level. When I measured its length would go from 19 inches to 27 inches. The manual top link will go from 21 inches to 31 inches. The dealer is going to try to get another one Monday but thought most of them only have an 8 inch stroke. If that is true, should I give up the 2 inches on the compress mode (23" to 31"Wink yeah right, the extended mode (21" to 29"Wink yeah right or an inch off each one (22" to 30"Wink yeah right?
