JD 855 PTO fuse blowing various times during mowing

Blew 5 fuses mowing the lawn for the first time today (with a 60 inch belly mower) on my JD 855. Happened a little bit last season too. Takes a 10 amp fuse, blew fuses last year, so I put in a 20 amp (last year) and didn't blow. This year even the 20 amps are blowing. Seems to be more when going over bumps, like something is jostling / shorting out. Any advice? Thanks.

Sounds like a short. Check all the wiring in the mower system. Could even be in the clutch for the mower pto.

Since it seems to blow the fuse when bouncing, I might suspect the seat switch or wiring in that area. Maybe when the suspension on the seat is going up and down, something is rubbing a wire. Another place to look is the electromagnet on the clutch lever. Since the magnet moves everytime the lever moves, there could be chafing going on there.

If a fuse is blowing it is indicating a short circuit causing excessive current in the circuit.

However, a safety switch or such can't do it because it is merely a switched (trigger) wire to ground from a solenoid anyways.

It has to be in the high load side of the circuit between the solenoid and the magnetic clutch itself. If the short is an area where the insulation has rubbed off a wire or the clutch coil itself, then the bumping (that likely caused the exposed area in the first place) could be causing the exposed area to short to ground.

Best of luck.
