Try this link. Best counter-weight I know of.

 Ballast Box

After many years of experimenting at this myself, I think we have it down to the cheapest, easiest method. Start with a very heavy plastic garbage can or plastic barrel, cut a small hole through each side just large enough to accept a draw-bar, about 24" up from the bottom (or adjust as required). Get a piece of 3/4" round steel bar, or something to connect the upper link to, and insert it , pointing up, into the center hole of the draw bar. Fill it with the required amount of concrete to obtain the desired weight. Taa-daa a ballast box. Best of luck.

 Ballast Box

I just ordered a JD 790 4WD with loader. The dealer tried to sell me a ballast box, but I decided to try it first without one. How about buying a carry-all (which I need anyway) and loading it up with cinderblocks? Or how about just keep my rotary cutter attached?

Congratulations on the 790! They sure are nice tractors. You will want some sort of ballast. An implement on the back works pretty will, but sometimes it is just too big to be handy. I like to use a box blade. They are close to the rear wheels and there are plenty of places on a box blade to hang extra weight if you want to do so..Then if you make a plywood top for it You have a dandy portable work bench too. Every once in a while I even use it to move dirt.
