 JD 48 Loader

I am looking at a 1968 JD 2020 diesel with a JD 48 loader. I am somewhat familiar with the tractor, but would like any stats available for both the tractor and loader. Any opinions could be helpful also.

Can't tell you much about the loader. From the 1998 Agriculture Blue Book it lists the following info for the JD-2020. Years mfd: 1965-71, 54 HP PTO, Weight: 4500 lbs (for the 2020 utility), List price: $5615 for Gas, $6115 for Diesel. Average Auction prices: low...$3808, high...$4932. avg....$4387. Hope this info. helps and good luck on the purchase. A JD tractor enthusiast.

 JD 48 Loader

Jeff -
Here's some information on the JD48 loader, directly from the operator's manual:

Weight(with 60 inch materials bucket): 1,220 lbs.

The following specs are for your tractor equipped with a 60 inch materials bucket:
Brakeout capacity at ground level: 3,600 lbs.
Lift capacity at maximum height: 2,400 lbs.

Operating dimensions:
These are for a JD4020 tractor with a 60 inch materials bucket. Dimensions will vary depending on the tractor used, tire sizes, and bucket, but this will at least give you a rough idea of what to expect. (The 4020 is obviously "taller" than a 2020 utility tractor, adjust accordingly.)
Maximum lift height to heel of bucket: 126 inches.
Maximum lift height to bottom of level bucket: 120 inches.
Ground clearance with bucket fully dumped: 104 inches.
Reach (i.e., horizontal distance from nose of tractor to front edge of bucket) with bucket fully dumped: 26 inches.
Reach (i.e., distance from front wheel hub to front edge of bucket) with bucket on ground: 68 inches.
Maximum dump angle (with loader at maximum lift height): 39 degrees (i.e., the floor of the bucket drops 39 degrees below horizontal).
Bucket roll-back angle: 9 degrees (i.e., floor of bucket can roll back 9 degrees above horizontal with the bucket on the ground).
Digging depth: 7.5 inches.

I would have responded to your inquiry sooner, but I was out of town for two weeks and just read the message board last night. I have a JD48 loader on a 3010 and it has worked very well for me. I actually wish I had it on a 2020 or a 2030, since climbing up on to a 3010 isn't getting any easier as I get older.

One final note: as for rear ballast, the manual says, "Use recommended maximum total ballast per rear wheel as shown in the tractor operator's manual for hitch-mounted implements plus 150 pounds or one wheel weight per wheel."

Hope this is helpful.

 JD-48-Loader

FYI: Tractor and loader sold for $8400, which was out of my money.

Jeff- Given what Mark said about the low and high auction prices for a 2020, and given that a 48 loader sells for $1500 to $2000 around here (SW Wisconsin), $8500 seems a little high for the pair. Someone must have wanted that 2020 with that loader real bad! Hope something else nice comes your way at a better price.
