 Deere scruffing update

Just had a couple oil leaks fixed on my 4600 and had the fog proof dash installed (25$) that was NOT covered by waranty, must be owners fault they fog up I guess. Asked about scruffing problem and my replacement axle and I was told the 4200-4300-4400s are being taken care of now and that it depends on how bad each individual tractor is. I was told that the fix on some includes pump, axle, and most all steering system from below steering wheel. But if they determine your tractor isn,t bad enough and you still insist on the fix you have to pay for some of it yourself. The fix for the big frame tractors as they refer to them 4500-4600 is still in the planning stage a couple more months I was told. Let me say that I have heard and read alot on the scruffing problems and I do not want to misslead anyone or step on anyones toes, this information I just told should be checked out with each individuals dealer and for them to find out if this is true or just more hearsay.I like to know of any new news on the scruffing problem and am sure you other 4000 owners do also hope this helps. bud in ohio.

Bud,
One of the tractors on my short list is a JD 4200. Do you know if there is any manufacturing dates or serial numbers that I should watch out for? I have also been looking at Kubota B2710 and B2910. I can't find a 2910 in the whole state but I am really impressed with the B2710. Prices seem pretty high, though. My best price for a B2710 w/loader and R4 tires is $15,728. The JD 4200 with the same equipment and foldable ROPS is $16,055. No sales tax included. I can't get anybody to even price B2910, yet.

Eddie: can,t help you with the Kabota price or Deere serial#s. If you are buying or looking at any 4000 series tractor on a dealers lot ask the dealer or look at the steering cylinder on the right front axle, there should be only one shaft coming out of the cylinder. If the cylinder is located more under the tractor with a shaft coming out both ends this is the old style axle. I,ve looked at 4000s at four different dealers and have yet to see the new style axle.

Eddie, I too am impressed with the 2710/2910. I've been on a 2710, but have been unable to locate a 2910 in the whole United State of Texas. I do have a price quote on the 2910HST with L402 and R4s - $16,575

Dealers are expecting them in any day now.......but they've been saying that since around the 1st of March.

I'm thinking of opting for a similarly equipped L3010

I really liked the L3010 and I thought the GST w/shuttle was as easy to drive as the HST. The R4 tires on L3010 were awesome. By the way, we are neighbors, I live in Oklahoma City. I had thought about driving to Dallas to see if there were any B2910s there. They seem to be in short supply. If I had gotten a reasonable quote on the B2910, I would probably still be waiting to see one. The extendable lift arms seemed like a nice option. I think the L3010 has them as well. I'm trying to figure out what kind of mower deck to buy now. If you have any recommendations let me know. I have to get a mower deck because that is the excuse I gave my wife to justify the tractor. I found a Tuffy brand for $,1095. but it looks a little cheaply made. The JD dealer wants $1,850.

Eddie, hey neighbor!!..Can't help ya out with the mower deck...I've not looked at any. I'm looking at the 5' SE5 or SQ600 rotary cutters. Both look equally matched. As far as the extendable lift arms??......did I miss something??

The B2910 had some devices on the lift arms that extended so that you did not have to line the tractor up perfectly to hook up an implement. I only saw it in the brochure since I never was able to see a B2910. The NH TC29D also had this feature. I thought the L3010 had it, too, but I must be mistaken. I thought it was a nice feature.
