Want to buy one cheap - Problem with mower according to seller (trustworthy) is that he had it parked in 2nd gear, went to put in nuetral
2 weeks later to mow and it would not shift down...Could it be shifter related or tranny related? I can get it cheap and has access to quite a few part mowers...could it be something simple??

the simple part would be linkage, that should be easily enough to see and do a visual on. Otherwise I will let the tranny experts jump in from here.
If it is paked on an incline, try giving it a little push towards the uphill direction and then try to shift it again, could be just pressure holding it in place. ....
