 Recall on JD4300 TractorThurstwasher

I purchased my JD4300 tractor in April of 99 and have 50 hours of use on the tractor now. In July my dealer called me and said he needed to pick up my tractor and install an "updated differential thrust washer". After they returned the tractor, I used it and noticed a buzzing sound coming out of the rear end area. I called the dealer and they picked up the tractor and replaced the PTO dampener and reassembled(as it states on the work performed description), they were also suppose to paint the PTO cover which was badly scratched from the 1st time they performed work. My dealer returned the tractor to me, the buzzing sound is still there and they didn't paint the PTO cover either. I also have noticed that when I turn the front wheels real hard to the right, the inner left side of the right tire badly rubs the black figerglass cover of the four hydraulic lines going to the front loader. Comments please...Ray

Do not know about your thrustwasher problem. I got my tractor about the same time. The dealer checked the recall list and said that mine was not included. As for the hydraulic hoses, mine were strapped into the loader frame arm. The strap apparently broke and they were hanging by the wheel, so I tied them back up. You might try that.

If you connect the hoses so that they hang down instead of pointing up the right front tire will rub every time you make a hard right turn. Try disconnecting them and reconnect pointing up.

I've tried reconnecting the loader hydraulic hoses up, down, and sideways. Up seems to give the best results, but still rubs a little. Also have put more plastic ties to hold the hoses in place. The manual shows the hose fittings as straight, rather than a right angle. Maybe this would help, but the dealer says the 420 loader with the 4200 should have angular connectors. As far as I can figure, it's just a poor design.

Im willing to bet that John Deere makes one set of hoses to fit all their compact series tractors from 4200 to 4600, 700's to 900's and we just happen to have the smaller tractors. My dealer told me there should be a big arc at the top where the hose begins but I cant get it to stay that way.

I had the mod done to my 4300, the way I understand it the Thrustwasher is the shim on the Pinion gear (responsible for setting the Backlash between your ring and pinion). The real problem was that the original washers were not hardened enough, and were wearing away at a fast rate. I do not understand why John Deere does not notify the owners of the tractors that are affected by the recalls that do not affect safety. This problem is an example of something that could mess up your tractor later in it's life. According to John Deere Customer Service "Repair Kits" are sent to your original dealer to repair and non-safety issues, and in turn they contact you to set-up the repair. I know this could never happen, but what happens if your dealer doesn't care or puts you off...two years down the road it is your baby. Everyone should call Customer service about this problem, they don't think we need to know.

Larry, I've the rear end go out on my 4300 twice already. The first time
at 25 hrs.and the seconed time at 50 hrs.I haven't had a chance to run it
after getting it home so I don't know how it's going to work.Wonder if
this has anything to do with that thrustwasher you mentioned. Ken
