 JD850 hydraulics

Hello,

I recently picked up a used JD850. There seems to be a problem with the lift.

When the tractor first starts up, the hydraulics won't lift at all. After about 10 minutes, they lift but very very slowly and only after trying several times. When they are dropped, it is controled until tha last 8 inches or so, and then bottom drops out and the implement crashes to the ground.

If it us run for a while with the hydraulics down, it then takes more tries and another 10 minutes to get the lift up again.

Finally, if the tractor is turned off while the lift is up, the lift seems to stay up. Even if we push down on it, it stays up. There seems to be plenty of hydraulic fluid.

Any idea where the source of the problem is? Is it an adjustment problem, the hoses, the pump or something else?

Any insight would be very helpful,

Thanks,

Cindy

Have you tried replacing the hydraulic oil, filters, and pickup screen? In this cold weather, the trans./hyd. oil may have some water/moisture that has solidified and restricting the flow of oil to the rear 3 pt. lift. This is the easy solution. If this is not the problem, you more than likely have a problem with the lift servo and or control valve. More than likely a task for the dealer to handle unless you have the tools and experience to remove the 3 pt. hitch lift. Good luck and let us know what the problem was.

Thanks for the feedback.

We haven't tried anything to fix it yet. Since I just bout it, I wanted to try to get a feel for how serious/expensive the problem might be. I think I will go back to the seller and ask for some sort of compensation if it turns out to be more than something we can hadle on our own.

I don't know if this matters, but I was told that at one point it had a loader on the front. I don't know if the problems with the rear hydraulics started before, right after, or well after the loader was removed.

Thanks again for the suggestions, we will definately check the filter etc.
