 Add-on Power Steering for JDs

Has anyone with a JD 650 - 1050 tried one of Deere's add-on power steering kits? These are supposed to be very complete and identical with original power steering....but I would like to hear from someone who has tried one.

Hi Rodger
I just recently put a power steering kit on my JD1050. It works great, mounted as good as could be expected (good) and had very good instructions. It was well worth the purchase. My only concern is it takes away from the already wimpy flow from the hydraulics, I'm investigating a higher volume pump now.

Roger, We never really got into selling compacts until the 70 series, but if memory serves, 50 series P.S. was a dealer install using the same kit you're talking about. I don't remember it being factory installed. (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong):}

I ordered power steering when I bought my 750 new. The option was dealer
installed. Part of the package is a flow regulator which sends a fixed amount
(about 1 gpm) of oil to the power steering with the remainder going to the
control valves. I was disappointed with the speed of the loader cylinders so
started checking things out. The dealer had installed the flow regulator wrong
and 1.1 gpm of oil was going to the control valves with the remainder going
to the power steering. Dealer wouldn't help me at all. I had to figure it
out myself. (I don't use that dealer anymore.) Even with things hooked up
correctly the loader is noticeably slower than a 750 without power steering.
However, a loader tractor without power steering is definitely not for me.
