Looking at new subcompacts, and see massey gc2300 with FEL/60"MMM is $12900 and JD 2210 with same equip is $13500. I saw that the Massey may not have a float feature on the 3pt. Is this a bad deal for blading, or post-hole digger? Does JD have 3pt float position? I seem to like everything else about the massey.

The three point hitches on all sub-compacts work the same, as far I as know. All these tractors lack "position control" of the hitch, as do some basic-featured regular compact tractors. There is simply a lever that you move back to raise, push forward to lower, and the "hold" position is in the middle. The hitch is only raised with hydraulic pressure and cannot develop down pressure so in a way the "down" position is a lot like a float.

As a comparison, with a position control system the lever moves within a graduated quadrant. For example, if the lever is at 1 with the hitch down and at 10 with the hitch up, placing the lever at 5 would hold the hitch halfway. The hitch position moves to match the corresponding lever position.

You are correct that lack of position control makes precise control more difficult. It is hard to raise and lower the implement in small, controlled amounts. Blading is one of the jobs that position control is really missed, but it is possible to do without it.

Chris,

Have you test drove both of these yet? If not, that's what I would encourage you to do. As for the lack of position control, as the last poster alluded to, it only makes going back to the same exact position more difficult.

Cheers

What about comparing the JD to the NHtz25? I haven't had the chance to hook up the Imatch hitch yet & need to see if it's that's easier than NH - my wife needs to hook up mower blade/other attachments if I'm not around since she's a farm girl & last thing I need is to buy something that is not easy for her since she is looking at this as a new toy and I am looking at this as less work.

Would you recommend gettin Imatch over reg. for a lady who is not very big - don't want to hear what sales guy says 'cause he won't be at my house helping out if I'm out of town & if it works like they say I don't mind paying the $$

Also - anyone have any probs. buying out of state & getting service from dealer because price I was quoted is less in NC (live in VA) but don't want to run into this issue. Saved about $700 but would rather pay more if they service me the right way vs. screwing me & this is my 1st tractor so no experience.

thank you for helping out a new guy with your advice

ps: would appreciate any info on "negotiation" as both guys said "this is my best price" (as quoted) but they are 700 different.

Imatch can certainly make it easy to hook up implements. It works best on flat ground, but it's possible to hitch up and swap implements without getting out of the tractor seat. It doesn't work quite that easy on uneven ground unless you have top-and-tilt hydraulics on your 3-point hitch. Of course you will have to get out to hook up the pto shaft on powered implements. There are aftermarket quick hitches, too, so you don't have to buy JD to get one. The downside to quick hitches is that you have to make sure any implements you buy are compatible. If they aren't they can often be modified to work.

Chris,

This weekend I had the pleasure of spending some time with the MF2310 TLB. It was a very nice machine and the relative who purchased it, has and will certainly get a lot of productivity out of it. However, when it comes to engineering form, fit and function, as well as ergonomics, MF is a long way behind Deere. That is just my opinion, and I'll be the first to admit that the MF tractor will do the job very nicely, but it still is behind Deere in those aspects.

Cheers

glad you enjoyed your ride. but I couldnt come to terms with spending the extra couple grand for the 2210 against the gc2310 tlb. I had three of these machines in my yard and worked all of them "very hard" for a demo " mr kuboto bx2300, jd2210, and the masse gc2310 tlb". the backhoe for the masse is what sold the machine and the price. and they gave me a 4 year warranty
sorry but I couldnt spend the green on the green machine.
now I have 680 hours on the 1 1/2 year old machine and it still runs as the day I bought it.
