 john deere 4600 ???

hey guys maybe its to soon or maybe i posted my ?? wrong . I`m still looking at the JD 4600 or the 4500 tractor. do these larger tractors in the 4000 seris have the same scuffing and quality control problems that the other tractors in this seris seem to have? as a auto tech I've seen several new car intros suffer birthing problems in the last 30 years and have learned to wait and see what the manufactor does befor bringing out the tar and feathers!as stated by several dealers at this site this conld cost J D up to 3k per unit there not going to rush out and spend this and then find out opp's thats not it. just my 2 cents on the problems with this new product. now back to my ?? is 17500 a good price for 4600 4wd with 4 hole valve, forp, power reverse 12/12 trans,ag tires. or shoud i go back to the orange machine that appears to have no problems?? dont want to start the" mines better" debate again but imho the green machine had more operator room easier controls was heavier built and i like the fully independent pto (on or off period ) There seem to be several very knowledgeable people at this board and i appreciate any help with this desisuion i can get. thanks jerry

Jerry
I havent heard about the 4500 or 4600 scuffing.
The prices I was quoted for a 4500 with your setup was $18000.00 & the 4600 was $19400.00
I bought a 4400 HST with 430 loader because of the smaller size.
Chris

We have a JD4600 MFWD w/power reverser/460 loader/48 hoe. One HECK of a tractor. Clearing forest, pulling stumps, digging septic and foundation, cutting in trails this tractor has been worked hard and as expected it runs superb. Over 110 hours and not a single problem. This tractor can do more work faster than the smaller tractors (if that is important to you) and IMHO is built better than the smaller more consumer oriented tractors. I like the fact that it has a four-cylinder instead of the three and has more weight to it than any other compact. I also looked at the Kubota and almost went with a L-35 but decided for a couple of reasons to stick with Deere. Both are great, heavy duty work tractors. Oh, and mine doesn't scuff, either in FWD or RWD.

I think your price sounds good. I have 180 hours on mine, and it is a working machine. I have used it for disking, pumping, grading with rear blades, bush hogging, and lots of loader work. Its got plenty of power; you hardly ever have to run it more than 2000-2200 rpms. I have a 7' heavy duty bush hog I run...with no problems. I would recommend the tractor to anyone. It is probably a little too big if all you want to do is mow, however.

JERRY, I OWN AND OPERATE A 4600 MFWD W/ FEL ON A COMMERCIAL BASIS, I HAVE LOGGED OVER 1500 HRS WITH NO PROBLEMS. I PERSONALLY WOULD NOT GO SMALLER THAN THE 4600 FOR MY PUPOSES, ITS BEEN AN EXCELLENT TRACTOR. I PREVIOUSLY OWNED A JD 870 MFWD SOLD IT IN 2000 FOR $15000 W/ 5FT ROTARY.
