 JD Valve/ head question

I bought on ebay, a "new in box" head assembly for my 755.
It seemed reasonably priced for a "just in case" future need, I figured I could resell if I never needed it. Here's the rub, upon inspection, it appears in fact new, but apparently assembled wrong, with an extra larger intake valve placed in an exhaust position. That is to say all valve seats are proper and correct, someone just stuck the wrong valve in one hole. The question is, can I just buy a new exhaust valve and install, or does it need to be "fitted" or "lapped" to the seat. (Clearly no fitting was attempted in the existing situation)
Thanks

 JD Valve/ head question

I would check to be certain the valve seats have been untouched. Is this a NEW head assy.? If so, and you replace the valves with a new exhaust valve, the seat and valve angle must be compatible and as a good practice (required in my opinion) should be lapped in to ensure a good seat and seal. If the seats have been ground, this could be a problem as it could significantly lower the compression ration dependent upon how much material was removed.

 JD Valve/ head question

I'd be looking quite closely at the seats as recommended. I don't really see how it could happen. There normally are good size seat diameter differences between the two valves.
