Great Spring Days are Here Again!!

The last few weekends I have transplanted about 16 large blue spruce (6-10 foot). Grew these from seedlings. Transplanted 12 poplars 8 feet tall. Ripped a bed of pachysandra out of the front garden with backhoe and re-distributed in back behind pool yard fence. I am waiting on 12 foot Maple and 8 foot King Crimson Maple to plant in back (waiting for sale price if it ever comes). Have multitude of seedlings coming from county and internet to plant for future years.

Could never have done this without my best assistant, JD4310 (and crazy wife Marilyn who works with me on tractor). I love the smell of earth and its damp feel in my hands this spring. There is nothing like getting back to nature when you work in an office on a computer all day long. I have gone to work for about 6000 days now 8-4 ater 27 years. This tractor was one of my best purchases ever!!

I agree.

For years I took every chance I could to get out on a jobsite and climb on a machine. When one young employee finally questioned why I would want to leave an air conditioned office to go out on a machine in the heat & sun to work, my answer was simple. Because I'm the boss and I can.

After I was forced into a retirement of sorts, I bought a tractor for home for the very same reason.

Now that I'm back to working a bit, and have started a new business, I still take my 'breaks' on the tractor whenever I get the chance.

Best of luck.

I know just how you feel! I put out several saw tooth oaks, various other nut trees we got from the forestry dept. & extension service. They have already started to grow buds. The deer, turkey, and (unfortunately) the coyotes are out and about and some of these rascals are trying to dig a few up but I kept several in reserve for this reason.

I'm a school administrator at a small school. The kids and parents laugh and smile when they see me, tie and all, sitting on the schools Kubota 3130 sanding and plowing the walkways, mowing the lawns or doing whatever. Those who have to ask why I don't have the buildings and grounds guy do it have obviously never "worked" with a tractor! Now if I can only justify the school's purchase of a backhoe or small excavator I might never have to sit in my office again!

You said you've been planting and transplanting trees. I'm doing the same except I'm starting a small tree farm. Are you using your tractor to the transplant trees or plant the treelings? They make a real nice "Tree Shovel" for skidsteers to do that but I haven't found anyone that's used one on a CUT, like my 4115. Interested to hear what your using.
