I am considering buying a new tractor. Either 4110 or 2210 with FEL and 54 MMM. I don't know which one to get. I will be using the tractor to mow 2-3 acres, establishing some pasture for horse farm, general hauling, and some leaf and snow removal. Is the extra money for 4110 worth it? Or will the 2210 be good enough.I am a novice so any advice would be appreciated.

Through an agreement with my close friend (Deere Dealer owner), I took delivery of a 4110 last year and was toying with the idea of "upgrading". After a day of playing, there was simply no way I could justify the cost difference (new to new with all goodies, FEL, deck machine is around $2,000 -3,000 plus).

If I upgrade it will be at least a 4210 or greater, because I don't feel the machines below that size offer that much more over the 2210 given the price difference. If I thought so, there would be a 4110 in my garage now but given my application it seems pointless; that is, I use the loader and 3-point lightly and don't need a backhoe (an option for the 4110) or post hole digger or quicker loader features (the loader ability is clearly favored towards the 4110 with a second hydro pump).

Point is, if I where using the 3-point and loader at the MAX and to all it's abilities on the 2210, then I would consider jumping up in size. Make no mistake, the 2210 like Kubota and the other small units within that size are workhorses and this is not to discount the added features of the big brothers, and they do have advantages over the 2210.

In my opinion, an individual needs to critically evaluate the overall intent/end use and make the right choice up front and this will save them money and head aches drown the road.

I would agree, look beyond the 4110 if you are going to do a lot of FEL work and really make use of the 3-pt. THe 2210 will be limited, but you may want to go beyond the 4110 for general horse farm chores, especially preparing the ground for development. ....

I was in the same boat as you about a year ago. 4110,2210, or 4115.... It depends on where you shop but the 4115 is about 2k more than the 4110, the 4210 is about 1500 more than the 4115... Heck I almost had myself talked into a 4310.

After was all said and done, I bought a 4110 hydro. I found out that the 4110 and 2210 have the exact same engine (exact same JD part #). The 4110's horsepower is rated at 2650rpms and the 2210 is rated at 3000/3100rpms. However, as someone pointed out to me, torque is the issue. The 4110 produces more torque (0.2lbft) than the 2210 but less HP.

Why I didn't choose the 2210 over 4110: 210 loader max capacity is 640lbs, 4110's is 800lbs. 2210 has limited cat1 3pt. 2210 is (seems) much lower to the ground. 2210 hydro capacity (press and volume) is lower than 4110. 2210 doesn't have a seperate PS pump.

Everyone's needs are diff. and as someone else said... every tractor is too small for something... I'm very happy with the 4110. It has amazed me with it's power. I have a 22hp 455 also... there's no comparison between the 455 and 4110.

k9jake,

Whichever machine you settle on, I highly recommend the 60/62" MMM. It will give you better overlap, move the ROPS further away from your landscaping, and make it easier to edge. In the case of the 2210/62C combo, the uncut circle will be 36" -- not to shabby for maneuverability!

Cheers

I was stuck on getting a 4115...then I tried out the medium framed tractors. I settled on a used (83 hours) 2003 4410 FWD/Hydro/all ematch options with a 72" mmm. Still under warranty until July '05...all for $15,200. FEL coming later this spring. I decided I would rather buy slightly used than wish I had more tractor in the future. It gives so many more features, a much smoother ride due to seat set-up, and actually turns sharper than the 4115 according to the brochure. I still feel it was the right choice. If you do stick with the 4110, go for the 60" deck...you'll never be sorry. Try several out at your home...I tried 3 before I made my choice. ....

Another feature that enters the realm at the 4110 level is a true position control on the 3 point hitch.

This is a very useful item in my book. ....
