I am unsure of how much to spend on a compact tractor. Is the 4115 with 72"mmm a much better tractor (bang for your buck)than the 2210 with 62"mmm? I will be mowing 4-5 acres, and light dirt work, snow removal, digging post holes. The 4115 also weighs 300-400 lbs more which may be a concern on leaving marks on the lawn? Any opinions?

I have a 4210 with a 6 foot midmount mower.
I also have ag tires and leave no damage when mowing.
I just don't mow when the ground is wet / muddy.
I mow five acres. I have a loader too.
The tractor is great.

I Have a 400 with a 60" and a 4115. I will say instead of buying a Mower deck and trying to dodge the wife's yard plants, I bought a 212 with a mower deck far cheaper than the mower deck for the 4115. I use the 4115 for stumps, rocks, digging and the work. You might want to be sure that the 4115 will go where you want it too, otherwise the 2210 is smaller.

I moved up from a 2210 to a 4115 but with the 60 MMM. I was told that the 72 MMM maybe to wide and scalp the ground if the ground was uneven at all. I would say if you are going to be doing mostly mowing the 2210 would be better if you going to be doing a lot of other things long with mowing the 4115 would be better. That is why I moved up to the 4115 was for doing the other things and it still does a nice job mowing. I looked at I think the 4200 but if I remember right it weighed 1700 lbs more. So the 4115 for me made a good choice. I have 5 acres but mow only a little over a acre. I just got a few weeks ago a 455 to go with the 4115 both 60 MMM so I am setup good now. ....

I run a 4310 with a 72" mm mower. I have the R4 tires and have not had problems with tracks in the yard. I have put some tracks in spots that were very wet or wet with the loader full of dirt. Otherwise, I love the tractor. I mow about 3 acres of grass.

I had been using a JD325 with a 54" deck. The power of the 4310 keeps the big deck running and the forward speed up. It has made a hug difference in my mowing time. I'm close to a 50% reduction in mowing time. ....

I own a 4115,R4 tires, w/72" mid-mount mower.
I notice tire marks only if I try to mow after a rain,w/very wet sod. I will mention to lift the mower desk when making a sharp turn. The rear wheels, on the 72" deck, do not caster/swivel like the front wheels. When first using my mower deck, I left a few skid marks by leaving the desk lowered while sharp turing.
I love the 72" deck mowing straight with the cruise control set.
Comparing the 2210 with the 4115, you'll find the 4115 3pt. hitch can handle a greater number of 3pt tools (full Cat.1,3pt). Happy mowing! ....

I have a 4410 with a 72" deck. I absolutely love the cut and capabilities of the tractor. I do have turfs on it and leave no marks unless it is very wet...and it is a 2900 pound tractor not including the deck. I never scalp the ground either...but I mow at 3" as well. I will say though, if you are spending the money on a 4115, the medium size CUTs are a little more money and a lot more tractor. ....

Not sure why noone has mentioned the 4110 which is in between the two, the 3-4 hp loss is negligible IMO (also just a rating scheme vs. the 2210-same engine), it is cheaper and lighter and more manuverable than a 4115 and it has a true cat 1 hitch and turning brakes (not true 2210), more lift on loader....

Nothing against either of these others they both seem like fine rigs but curious why the jump from 2210-4115 and skip 4010, 4110. Must have been based on HP alone which IMO is no true indicator. ....

4310 with a 72" mmm is what I use. I LOVE that 72" deck. I mow about 3 acres. I love the 72" deck!! Love the power to drive it. Cut my mowing time in half from a 325 with 17 hp and a 54" deck. ....

Just as DennoAce suggests, I found the 4110 to be a perfect bridge between the 2210 and the 4115. For $2-$3 thousand less than the 4115, you get the same hydraulic capacities, 3-PH, loader, etc. With 4-5 acres to mow, you will still be done in under 2 hours with the 60" deck, even with obstacles. The 4115 has a considerably larger turning radius, which, with the added cost, is why I settled on the 4110. I couldn't be more pleased. I do wish they offered the 7-Iron deck for the smaller frame CUTS, though. I can't figure out why they don't (?) ....

I brought a 4410 6 months ago and love it. I have steped up from a 355 to 455 now a 4110, I now wish I would of brought a 4200. You can never have to much hp. But I foudn the frame for small property can be too much. I would error on the upper size not the lower limit.

Good luck.

Roger ....

If I remember correctly, the turning radius on the medium frame tractors is actually tighter than 4115. They do weigh 2900 pounds instead of around 1600 pounds though...good for some things (loader work, pulling loads) but not for others (wet turf conditons). ....

Is buying a larger size tractor worth the expense and extra weight just to get a 72" deck? We will be mowing 4 acres. Maybe the 4110 with a tighter turning radius and 60" deck is a quicker mowing tractor. ????? ....

The medium frame tractors have lots more features...all the ematch controls, seperate controls for the 3ph and mmm, full suspension seat, much higher hydrolic flow, and of course more hp. All of these features are great for mowing, bush hogging, and especially FEL work. If you don't want a medium frame, stick with the 4110 (or new series equivalent) because IMO the 4115 is way over-priced for a tractor that is only slightly more capable (unless you have to have a 72" deck)...same FEL and other features. ....

Chris, I believe the 2210 is an even better mower than the 4110 and the 4110 probably better for most finish mowing with a belly mower than a bigger tractor. I've owned both a 2210 and a 4110. That is NOT to say the 4110 isn't one of the best mowing CUTS out there. I'm sure the 4115 is awesome with a 72" deck, too. I agree 4 acres of finish mowing should not typically require a 72" deck, but some want the speed just the same. I'm guilty of overkill in such matters, but found my limit on the mowing issue with anything bigger than the 4110. Just me talking, here... ....

Bigpete, What did you like about the 2210? How fast can you mow in a straight line? Do you think the 3 pt goes high enough to run a post hole digger? Does the 2210 have a nice turning radius?

JD also makes a front mount mower called the 1435 with 24ph diesel, 62" rear discharge deck. I see these used machines for around $8000. I am tempted to buy this for mowing, and a used compact for loader and post hole digger. I have been told those front mounts mow extremely well. ....

Hey, Chris. The 2210 has a floorboard dial for mower deck height comtrol, versus a set of shackles above the 3PH on the 4110/4115. I do like the 60" deck on my 4110 a bit better than the 62C, but I give up a couple of inches for a heavier deck. Both the 2210 and 4110 will mow in light cutting conditions at 6-8 MPH, but 5-7 MPH is a better speed. The turning radius is almost idential between the 2210 and 4110, but I beleive the 2210 is a bit easier on the turf in those routine tight turns around trees. The 3PH on the 2210 is wide enough for most any standard ASAE Cat 1 implement, but I think you would need a post-hole digger with a shorter auger for transport. Never used one, but that's what I've read. I'm looking at a pro-quality 48-52" walk-behind with standing sulke for my trim work. I figure it is going to cost me anywhgere from $2,500 to $4,000 for the addition. ....
