 Customer Satisfaction

I had an unhappy incident with a local JD dealer recently and I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience. I drove 15 miles to the nearest dealer to buy an air filter for my 4100. I told the parts person that the box he put on the counter looked very large for the air filter I was replacing on the 4100. I was assured that this was the right part. I drove 15 miles home and opened the box. With a lot of time, a wood splitting mall, and a band saw I may have been able to make the $13 air filter fit in the space provided. I decided to return the filter for the correct one. 15 more miles to the dealership this time with the old filter in hand. After some research the correct part was placed on the counter. People make mistakes, but they should not do it at my expense. The parts person then told me it would cost an additional $5 for the correct part(and laughed). My thoughts were that retroactive birth control may not be such a bad idea afterall. I protested immediately pointing out that the correct filter is 1/3 the size of the incorrect filter and that the dealership had cost me an extra 30 miles and 1 hour of my time because of their mistake. Customer satisfaction did not seem to be a primary concern of the parts person. $5, 30 miles, 1 hour, and a badly bruised ego later, I returned home and replaced the filter. I called the main dealership and filed a complaint. 3 days later I received a telephone call from the main dealer explaining that their book and computer did not agree on the part number so it was an honest mistake. I DON'T THINK SO!!!! I have purchased two new JD's from this dealership this year. I suspect that the air filter that I originally received from the parts person will never fit a 4100 or the place where I suggested they place it. I may buy another JD during my life but it will not be from THAT dealership. I will not release the name of the dealership but their initials are D&G Equipment in Mason Michigan.

I agree Larry. The dealer that takes care of customers gets more than $5. Today my dealer sold me a furrow, but wanted to check the price. He thought it was too high and then cut the price in half ($4.50 for a small one! I think he cut it by 80 percent). I mentioned I was looking for some plate metal and he took me out back and let me have my pick ... free! Needless to say I'm a loyal customer. Unfortunatley, he's also selling the business this month ... making one loyal customer very sad. BTW, he has a very group of loyal customers. Rumors are he's getting top dollar for the business ... and he deserves it.

The local car parts dealership is a good idea. I normally go there for oil filters and oil but never thought of them for the air filter. I will give it a try. Thanks.
