how to store a tractor over the winter?

Hello out there. I just purchased a JD770 last week and I would like to know home to store it over the winter. I am new to the diesel world. I am not too sure on how to store it. Also, I don t know if it is #1 or #2 fuel. Will I hurt it if I store it in the barn over the winter with out using it? Thanks any information would be appreciated, Jeff N.

Hi Jeff, For winter storage--- Max out your fuel tank with #2 ONLY! Use a fuel conditioner for diesel. Change your oil before winter (acids in combustion by-products). Fill battery to specs. Start motor every couple weeks and run at fast idle 1200 rpm until warm. The main thing is to change to oil before storage. Diesels are notorious at oil contamination.

Jeff, The 770 has a dry clutch. If you live in an area w/high precip. or
humidity, your clutch discs can become stuck together during periods of storage,
making the clutch inoperative. To prevent this, depress the clutch pedal, and
affix it to the floorboard using a c-clamp or vice grips etc. John Deere
actually ships these tractors in this manor to avoid the problem during overseas
travel. Most dealers toss the disposable clip that holds the pedal during shipment. This tip applies to any make of tractor with a single stage dry clutch. Congradulations on the purchase of your new John Deere!!!
