 JD4200 Hydro or JD4300 Collarshift

Need to make a choice between a JD4200 Hydro with no mid-PTO or a JD4300 Collarshift with mid-PTO that's been sitting since September. Total price quoted as $17920.00 plus tax. Both are brand new and ready, and price includes 420 loader with valve, 413 cutter, ballast box, and R4 tires.

Just make very sure that you don't want a hydro before you commit to a standard transmission. For my uses, especially loader work, I would not want anything but a hydro. I bought a collar shift and returned it after one weekend and had a hydro put on order. I simply need to change speeds and reverse too often for a standard. Just make sure you test drive each and get a feel for what you're buying.

I'd get the hydro, you can drive it all day without getting tired. Unless you really need the extra HP. I've been very happy with my 4300 hydro.

I love my 4200 hydro. If you've found one, you'd better make up your mind quick or the hydro will be gone. I've seen posts from guys ordering JD hydros with NOVEMBER deliveries. Good Luck!

Dealer should be able to add mid-pto. I was quoted $275 six months ago on new tractor, not sure what price will be now.

Thanks guys but the choice is mute now. Someone else bought the 4300 collarshift(this morning the dealer had it torn down putting a fix to the trans. recommended by the JD engineers) and the 4200 HST would take awhile to come in.Instead I bought the 4400 he had sitting there. Its a 4wd HST with rear PTO, dual SVC, R4 tires, and folding ROPS: for $17000.00. I have a side deal to get a 430 Loader at cost and free ballast box, when I'm ready to buy. Hope you guys think this is an OK deal.
