JD 790 and 70 loader purchase advice

I am contemplating buying a 2002 model JD 790 with model 70 loader installed. The unit was repossessed with only 50 hours on the clock, was used by a hobby farmer, and appears to be in great shape.

Two questions:

1) I cannot find the specs for the 70 loader. How does it compare (lift capacity, attachment to tractor, etc.) with the current model 419 loader?

2) The local JD dealer is trying to help the current owner sell this machine, and the asking price (before serious haggling) is $13,500. Sounds a bit high to me, what do you think a fair price would be? It has industrial tires and looks like new.

I can not provide you with the data for the 419, but the 70 loader has a capacity of 755 lb at full height, 1190 at 18", 1010 at 36", 1300 breakout boom and 1570 breakout bucket. I attaches and disconnects easily with the forn support forming its own stand. You can pull the pins from the seat and disconnect the hoses and simply backout of it.

The price looks the same as the new price. Is there a full waranty? I would think there need to be some discount.

Here is the scoop on the 419 loader. Looks pretty close.

We just let one go this summer with about 350 hours that didn't look like it had been driven off the show room floor yet. With the 60" mower and loader with industrial tires we got 12500 for it.

For 12,000 or 12,500 I might consider it but 13500 is almost new pricing. You'll only be getting the 1 year left on the original warranty instead of the 2 you get if you buy new.

I just bought the 790/419 loader/Ind. Tires with an LX-5 Rotary cutter w/ slip clutch for 14,900. Without the cutter it would have been a little under 13,900 so you are saving only $400.

This dealer probably sold the unit new a year ago for 14,000 and made some $$$ and now he's going to resell it for 13,500...I don't think so.

Thanks for the information! I'm really impressed with the knowledge and quick response of the folks on this board.

Today the dealer found out that the "owner" is going into bankruptcy, and the tractor may be tied up for some time in court. I'm looking at a new 790 as a possibility, which would have the advantage of the full-size 419 loader instead of the narrower bucket on the model 70. With the financing incentives, a new tractor looks better all the time!

I just paid $13,500 for a new JD790 4WD with the 419 loader and a 5 ft box blade at 0% financing, no payments until 2004. If you are close to South Carolina, check out Valkenburg Equipment in Greenwood. They are still running the deal.
