 855 JD- 3-point sticking. Help

The 3 point on my 855 started sticking periodically last summer. Usually if I would turn off then back on it would work for a while but has progessed. I can actually feel tension when I move the 3 point when its warmed up.

I already changed all the hydraulic oil in case there was a piece of dirt in a valve but to no relief.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Could it be a control valve gone bad leaving the hydraulic fighting themselves(thats what it feels like) Thanks Mike

 855 JD- 3-point sticking. Help

I did have some occasional mystery hydraulics that disappeared after changing the oil and filter. Before I changed them I figured out that when the 3ph wouldn't lift I could get it going again by making sure all my loader valves were centered. I have separate valves rather than a joy-stick so I can jiggle the individual valves. In many types of hook-ups, the 3ph won't lift when any loader valve is active.

I'm not sure what to say about the feeling of tension on the 3ph-quadrant lever. Many control valve arms for position control 3ph's operate on plunger type spooling and poppet valves, and it doesn't take much force to operate them. You might perform a lift rod linkage adjustment (following a manual's procedures). Most procedures involve disconnecting the lift rod, manually operating the control valve lever to raise the 3ph to its highest position (the relief valve should open). Then the lever is backed off until the relief valve closes plus a little more, and the linkage is reconnected.

The problem might be in the linkage itself. During the adjustment you should be able to notice if the control valve arm binds. There is some linkage, but the spooling valve could be scored and binding. While the linkage is disconnected, the quadrant lever could be worked to see if there's any binding in that linkage.

There's really nothing I'm aware of in a positional control hitch where hydraulic pressure should make a quadrant lever more or less easy to move.

 855 JD- 3-point sticking. Help

Mine has just done the same thing. It's the rocker arm hydraulic valve. Figure on about $1000 for the dealer to fix; parts are the big expense.
